What has fins like a whale, skin like a lizard, and eyes like a moth? The future of engineering.
Creativity is essentially nothing more than awareness: the ability to take notice, to pay attention, to perceive, to examine, to probe, to weigh, to study, to look, and to heed. A big part of creativity is discovery, and the natural world is one big treasure hunt, full of potential, possibility, and priceless possessions. Living organisms have evolved well-adapted structures and materials over geological time through natural selection. Biomimicry is a "new science that studies nature's models and then imitates or takes inspiration from these designs and processes to solve human problems". Biomimetic has given rise to new technologies inspired by biological solutions at macro and nanoscales. Humans are clever, but without intending to, we have created massive sustainability problems for future generations. Fortunately, solutions to these global challenges are all around us. Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies. The goal of this workshop is to know how improve our natural creativity and how create products, processes, and policies in the ways of living that are well-adapted to life on earth over the long haul.
